Happy Sunday everyone. What a great day for a pair of cute linen pants. Rain or shine, I always feel so good when I am wearing these pants.
Today, as part of my Linen Series 2021, I am posting about my white linen pants. I am obsessed with white linen pants and have been for many years. The obsession started more than thirty years ago, when I had my first breakup and heartbreak. As a much-needed pick me up, I decided to buy myself something and found some really cute linen pants. Those pants made me feel so beautiful and put together, and I have always included a pair of white linen pants in my wardrobe since that time. However, until these, I had never really found the perfect pair.
Now, let me share something with you. I call it my Linen Pants situation. Years ago, I was looking for a pair of really great-looking and great-fitting white linen pants. This was over fifteen years ago, or longer. I went to a large department store, and asked if they had any linen pants. The woman working in that department said yes, and showed me some Eileen Fisher pants that were about $149 and just beautiful. Well, at the time, I was financially challenged [or so I thought] and would have never spent $149 on any one piece of clothing, no matter what. Unless it was a coat or boots, or something major like that, and it would have had to be a pretty amazing coat or pair of boots for me to spend even that. I have evolved so much since that time. But I was very young and very broke, and that was during my struggle days. Plus, I was a single mom with a tight budget.
Well, I couldn’t help myself, so I tried the pants on, and they were EVERYTHING! I almost cried when I put them back because there was just no way I could get them. Years, passed, and I was always looking for a perfect pair of linen pants, buying them from here and there, and everywhere. Except from Eileen Fisher, of course. After some time, I realized, if I had just purchased the pants for $149, I would have had a well made, beautifully fitted pair of white linen pants, that looked great, and I felt great in, for years already. I also realized that in my quest to find a pair that fit as wells as the Eileen Fisher’s, I had spent hundreds of dollars, way more than the pants I wanted actually cost, looking for a pair of pants, that would have only cost me $149 and were perfect. I won’t even mention the mental space occupied by this constant obsession that would have been cleared up if I had just bought the pants.
Surprisingly, it never occurred to me to save for the pants and go back and purchase them. Never. Fast forward to today. Now, if I see something I want, I just buy it. If I don’t have the money, I wait until I get it and then I get what I want. When I am struggling about the cost of something, I say to myself “Just buy the pants!” Especially if it registers a 10 on my radar, and those pants were definitely a 10.
Okay, now back to these pants. This is Simplicity 8605 without the belt. I made these pants to wear with flat sandals. If I wanted to wear them mostly with wedges, I probably would have added about 3 or 4 inches to the hem to accommodate that. But I normally wear these with flats. I like everything about these pants. The fabric was purchased from Fabric Store like most of the linen pieces I’ve made. I have never been disappointed with any fabric I have ever purchased from them.
Now, this is not a pair of pants that I made just for this Linen Series. I made these pants about 6 years ago. But because I love them so much, and they are so perfect to me, I thought it was worth sharing the pants and the story with you. I no longer look for white linen pants because I have the most perfect pair. I have made these pants 3 times, and I wear them all of the time. Yet another reason why I love making my own clothes. Once you perfect the pattern, you can make it as many times as you like or make revisions to your existing pattern to make something slightly different from the original. Hence these pants. I have them in red and yellow.
That’s a wrap for now on Linen Series 2021 Part 4. I loved the color of this skirt, and the fit was perfect. Thank you for allowing me to share my favorite linen pants with you. you.
