McCalls 7969 – Gathered Sleeve Rayon Maxi Dress

McCalls 7969 View D.  This is my last summer dress DIY for 2020.  Not to say I won’t make this dress in a Fall winter fabric or pattern in the coming months, because it is really a great dress.  I made this dress to wear to a friend’s backyard get together, but changed my mind and decided to wear something more casual.  I have made this dress before, but it was a knee length dress [View A] instead of a maxi like this one.

The fabric is a beautiful rayon that I received from my neighbor, who gifted it to me along with some other fabrics her mother owned.  Her mother passed away last year and she was going through her mother’s belongings and knew that I sewed.  So, she was kind of enough to gift me some fabric, along with other notions, which I was very appreciative of.  This was one of my favorite cuts from the stash. Not only because of the beautiful colors, but the amount of the cut, which was a whopping 6 yards, uncut.  Yayyy!

I am a Simplicity Girl, but cannot pass up a good sale on any of the patterns.  So, for McCalls, I like it.  The pattern would be a breeze for an experienced seamstress, but for a beginner, the bodice might be a little bit of a struggle.  I like the different lengths the pattern offers, and the sleeves. This dress is View D, with the sleeves from View A, which is a gathered sleeve at the cuff.  Beautiful!  My favorite part of the dress is the sleeves.  Even the gathering was tolerable when you consider the end result.

Overall, a great dress, and I can’t wait until I can wear it to an event in 2021, like a wedding.  I think it would be perfect for that.  Here’s the pattern.  McCalls M7969
