I made this kimono from Simplicity 8553 Simplicity 8553 .

I bought this fabric from Hobby Lobby and got a pretty good deal on it. I had been eyeballing it for a minute, and then one day it was on clearance, so I scooped it up.  I thought it would be a dress, but it ended up being this super cute Kimono.

This pattern was very easy and would be great for a beginner.  No gathers, or anything remotely difficult, except maybe the interfacing, which is not difficult.  It sews up pretty fast once you’ve cut all the pieces, and you will be wearing it in no time.  Though I used a very lightweight woven fabric, you have many fabric choices when it comes to this piece.  Sweater knits for sure, and pretty much any knit, lightweight or medium. It would also be great in a denim.

I did not make any changes.  Just cut it and sewed it right on up.  No changes necessary really, although you could add pockets if you want.

The styling options for this Kimono are endless.  I wore mine with some leggings and a tank top, but it can easily be paired with a tank dress, pencil skirt, or some high waisted jeans. Just too many options!  The best part of this piece is the length and the slight bell sleeve.  It’s so flowy and feminine and I think it is just super cute.

Bottom line, I love it. I’ve made it before, and I will be making it again, and again.
