I was excited about making this dress.  Basically it is a caftan with a full skirt.  The pattern has two views, but it could also easily be made into a tunic as well, which I may attempt.  I made view B in a medium ITY knit in a rich red between burgundy and red with almost a velvety lace trim which I found from Hobby Lobby.  The pattern called for trim on the neckline only, but I trimmed the sleeves also with the same color lace.

I thought this pattern was fairly easy, even though I did make some changes to it.  Construction was fairly simple, but after constructing the bulk of the garment, I realized I could have cut the large instead of the XL.  The waist was too roomy, so I decided to make a casing and put some elastic in the waist.  Having done that, I could not really sew the belt to the sides as the pattern instructs, and had to tie it around the dress instead of attaching it.

I wore this dress to a fashion show with gold accessories and gold pumps.  I felt very elegant in my dress and was very happy with the way it turned out.  Keep in mind the dress has a very deep plunging neckline, and after having worn it, I wish I had made a tube top from the remaining fabric and wore that under the dress. You would see some skin but not too much, and the tube top could be worn with something else altogether.  Probably a piece I will seriously consider going back to add.  Although the brave could wear this without anything under it for a really sexy look.  I wore a black tank under mine.

Overall, this is a really good pattern for beginners.  I would definitely make it again in a more casual fabric and for a more casual atmosphere, like work, church or a date.  It would work in all sorts of fabrics and I plan on using a linen when I make it again.  I will likely make the shorter length, View A.  This is a very classic dress, and I really liked making it and wearing it.

The pattern also calls for a zipper in the back, which I chose to skip. This fabric is a stretchy knit, and I felt like this part could be skipped. When I make it in a woven fabric, I will probably add the zipper because the bodice will be more fitted.
