Simplicity S9012 Ruffled Dress

When I first purchased this fabric, I intended to use it for the lining of a coat, which I never made.  Then I decided to use it for a dress for my cousin’s wedding. Unfortunately, the wedding was postponed because of COVID.  But, clearly this dress would be perfect for a wedding. This is Simplicity S9012 by Cynthia Rowley.  Here’s the pattern.  Simplicity S9012

I like everything about this pattern.  The length, short enough to be sexy, but long enough for someone my age or younger.  The ruffled neck is the bling for me, and adding the ruffled sleeves makes it even better.   I made the belt to go with mine because I like to cinch the waist. Although this dress would be adorable either way.  Other than that, I didn’t make any changes to the pattern.  It’s perfect, as is.

The sleeves and the ruffle neck were the trickiest part because of the ruffles and the curves, which can be challenging for a beginner.  It would be a good pattern for someone wanting to improve on some skills.  At least it was for me.

I purchased the fabric from Joann’s.  It’s so cute with little canary looking birds all over it.  I love the color and the contrasting print.  It would have been a great lining for a coat. But, honestly, it’s too cute to be inside of a coat!  It has a silky hand and it makes me feel very dressed up.  I really like this dress and I can’t wait to wear it again.
